Have a radio antenna cable break out in the field?  Use our field repair kit to get you back on the air.

Includes:

  • One rotary style coax stripper setup for RG-58 (also can strip for RG-59, RG-6, RG-174)
  • Four twistable Male BNC connectors for 50-ohm RG-58 antenna cables
  • Instructions on how to use this kit

Step 1 – Make sure the stripper is setup for RG-58 to cut 1/4″ between the inner shield and the outer sheath.

Step 2- Squeeze the tool and place the cable left to right in the jaws.   You will need 9/16″ of the center connector sticking out.

Step 3- Release the squeeze, so the cable fits right in the grove.

Step 4- Put your finger in the loop, then circle the cable 3-4 times.

Step 5- Squeeze and remove the tool,  it should cut in two places about 1/4″ apart.  If it doesn’t cut right, then tighten the right hex bolt on the bottom of the tool.  You only want to turn clockwise 1/4 turn.  If too tight then turn it counterclockwise.

Step 6- Twist the inner braid clockwise so the inner dielectric shows 1/32″.  Make sure all excess copper braiding is not touching the center conductor.

Step 7- Gently insert the coax into the end of the connector.  Feel your way in so the center conductor can go into the small guide-hole.

Step 8- Push the cable firmly home (as far as possible), then screw the connector clockwise onto the cable until it stops.

Step 9- Check that no braid is showing.  Check the continuity of the cable is correct and that the inside pin and the outside ground do not form a circuit.
